The first dog park was built 1979 in Berkeley, CA.
In 2015 National Parks and Recreation Associations described Dog Parks as “the fastest growing segment of city parks.”
R-DOGS was formed in 2018 by a group of concerned Rosslyn citizens to meet the need for a dog park in this densely populated urban environment. Working tirelessly for three years the group lobbied the county and raised funds so that all residents and dogs can enjoy a refurbished community asset and dog park. The overall design focused on the needs of the many canine companions living in the area.
Rosslyn as of 2018 had over 400 dogs living within five to six blocks of Gateway West. Today it is estimated the number exceeds 600. Given the additional 2500 planned new housing units within Rosslyn the number of dogs is estimated to be greater than 1000 within four to five years.
